There’s More Than One Way to Find Photos

Trying to find a specific photo among 100’s of images can be very challenging especially if you don’t remember much about the photo. Heritage Collector offers some unique ways to find the photo you are looking for. You may not know the name of the person but you remember the name of someone else in the photo.

For example, you might want to find a photo of Amanda but you only remember she is in a photo with John Myers, her husband. So you can search for John Myers using a hot spot search (tags). The following photo would appear along with other photos.

Photo showing five different type of information that can be searched.

You could also do a combined search specifying several places to look for a photo such a caption, hot spot tag, description, historical data of when the photo was taken, date range or a GPS coordinate range.

Find Photos in FIVE Different Ways

1- Search For a Name
You can search all photo captions for a name or other words.

2- Search Within a Description
Each photo can have a description containing several lines of text, even links to other websites. You can search for any word or phrase in all photo descriptions.

3- Search by Hot Spot (Tag)
You can enter photo hot spot tags for every person or objects in a photo. As mentioned, you might not be able to remember the name of the person in the photo but remember the name of another person in the photo. You could search for the name your remember and then find the photo you are looking for.

4- Search by Date
Heritage Collector allow you to enter a “historical Date” for the photo or file instead of relying on the date the file was created. You can then search for a photo by entering a historical date. You can also search using a date range if you can only remember the year you think the photo was taken.

5- Search by GPS Coordinate
Each photo can have a GPS coordinate associated with the photo. Heritage Collector has a very easy way to find photos and files using GPS coordinates. How? By selecting the state and city from a checklist. Then you specify a mile search radius from 1 to 100 miles. So you don’t need to know an exact location, just the state and city.

Most new smart phones allow you take photos and automatically associate the GPS location coordinate with the photo. Heritage Collector recognizes these GPS coordinates allowing you to search via GSP coordinate.

What’s the Easiest Way To Search?

The information that has already been entered about a photo or file can also be used search and find the file in the future.

Information should be added to photos, documents, video, and sound files. Why? This is what adds meaning, interest, and value to your files. In the future, few people will be interested in viewing photos they know nothing about. Pertinent documents will also be easier to locate and use if a description or caption has been added to the file information.

This same information can be used to search and  easily find each file in the future.

How to Find Photos?

As mentioned previously, different kinds of descriptive information can be easily associated with every photo and file. This information can be used to search and file any file in any collection Instead of trying to remember where the file is stored.

It may be hard to find a photo or file even if you’ve taken the time creating descriptive folderx and file names. Why? Because you still have to remember where the file is stored. This means taking a lot time opening many different folders and subfolders until the file is discovered. Unfortunately it’s easy to forget a file name or date when you have hundreds of files in your computer.

Another important consideration is that you might be the only one that understands and can use your filing system. This may limit or prevent your children and others from benefiting from all the hard work and time it’s taken to create your system.

It’s easier and more accurate to find a photo if you can enter more information to narrow the search. Entering a search criteria.
